The festive season is upon us in Antigua!
Well, the island suddenly feels like the world’s sailors have descended on her…. sleepy bars and cafe’s are now transformed into Santa grotto’s with sailors from far and wide enjoying the sunshine and rum. It’s certainly feeling very festive! The supermarket is playing carols at full pelt and the restaurants have adorned their dining patio’s with tinsel and brightly coloured Christmas trees.
Many people ask us; does it feel like Christmas in the tropics? Well, the answer is “Yes”! The Antiguan people absolutely love their Christmas. So much so that they spend days cleaning their houses – and by cleaning, I don’t just mean a mop of the floor and a little light dusting. No, this is major spring cleaning – everything is taken down and washed including the curtains.
For sailing charter guests, it’s the perfect time for a vacation. The cold has set in (unless you live in Miami or LA!) and Santa is about to arrive by helicopter into our base – Jolly Harbour. What more do you need?
Sailing conditions are perfect; the tradewinds have arrived giving us some champagne sailing with temperatures around 80 degrees.
It wouldn’t be the Holidays without a good party; and the Antiguans love a good party – so we are looking forward to joining in when the time comes.
In the meantime, the busiest week of the season is almost upon us – so forget the eggnog for now, and let’s get prepped for our sailing Santa’s!
